Images From Life
March 8 – April 26, 2025
Reception on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. at the Firehouse Arts Center lobby
The Firehouse Arts Center is excited to present the solo exhibition of Daniel San Souci, Images From Life. Featuring 15 of the artist’s works, step into a world where art becomes a bridge between storytelling and the natural world. This exhibition invites one to explore San Souci’s dual mastery of realism and imagination through the medium of oil painting. From his wildlife paintings that capture the essence of the nature to his narrative-drawn portraits that capture the quiet power of his subjects, each work tells a story that resonates its viewer.

Daniel San Souci
Daniel San Souci was born in San Francisco and grew up in Berkeley, California. From an early age he was exposed to world renowned artists through his father, who worked at UC Berkeley. After high school, San Souci attended the California College of the Arts in Oakland.
Once out of college, he was offered a contract to do the artwork for the book, “The Legend of Scarface: A Blackfeet Indian Tale,” which his brother had retold. This first book won some prestigious awards, including the New York Times Best Illustrated Book and The Boston Globe/Horn Book Award. This launched his thirty-five-yearlong career in book illustration, mainly illustrating children’s books and books for the National Parks, where he won two Golden Spur Awards from the Western Writers of America for his wildlife art. During this time, he also taught at The Academy of Art in San Francisco.
In recent years, San Souci has been concentrating on his fine art. He was a finalist in The Portrait Society of America’s annual competition and won awards from the American Watercolor Society and the California Watercolor Society. He has recently won numerous awards for his paintings, including 2021 Best of Show and a 2022 First Place awards from the Sacramento Arts Center, and recently a top honor from the Harrington Gallery’s Fresh Works Juried Exhibition.
